Horizons opened on EPCOT Center’s first anniversary, Oct. 1, 1983. As the first major expansion seen in the park, the ride was a rather significant addition to Future World, fully encompassing the themes of the park and really provoking thought about the future. The ride closed in 1999, as many transitions were made across Future World at the end of the century. While the ride may not have been a part of the grand opening at EPCOT, how can you not mention one of the most remembered rides from the EPCOT Center era when celebrating Epcot’s birthday?
